This session will discuss the automation of all lab operations at the Genome Technology Access Center (GTAC@MGI) in the McDonnell Genome Institute at the Washington University School of Medicine. This work started with COVID-related workflow, which
played a vital role in enabling rapid testing of large numbers of people. Speakers will also provide steps and insights to the overall digital transformation in a molecular diagnostic lab; insights including the scope, timing, flexibility, and
agility of implementation, as well as results and key findings. The L7 Informatics’ Enterprise Science Platform (L7|ESP) gives diagnostic companies (including companion diagnostics, IVD, LDT) total visibility over all their operations while
digitizing, integrating, and automating scientific, analytical, and operational workflows. L7|ESP will increase sample throughput and quality assurance in results and provide reliable documentation for regulatory review (CAP/CLIA/GLP/cGMP).
Attendees to this session will learn about:
- Digital transformation of COVID-19 testing procedures, including connecting testing processes with laboratory instruments and software systems and integrating data management and reporting.
- The benefits and need of digital transformation in molecular diagnostic labs.
- How to implement a composable enterprise framework to make digital transformation possible and offer organizations the ability to scale-up critical functions more rapidly without the re-tooling or redeveloping capabilities.

Michael Heinz is the Assistant Director of GTAC and has been with Washington University since 2002. During that time, he managed the Department of Genetics Microarray Core, which is now part of GTAC. Prior to his tenure at Washington University, Michael worked in a microarray services laboratory at Incyte Genomics.
Vasu Rangadass, PhD
President & CEO
L7 Informatics, Inc.
Dr. Vasu Rangadass, Ph.D. is the President & CEO at L7 Informatics, Inc. L7 (www.l7informatics.com) provides software and services that enable synchronized solutions for science + health. L7’s novel Enterprise Science Platform (L7|ESP) is a scientific process and data management (SPDM) solution that enables life science and healthcare companies to connect people, processes, and systems to accelerate discoveries and drive precision healthcare. Prior to L7 Informatics, Dr. Rangadass was the Chief Strategy Officer at NantHealth following its acquisition of Net.Orange, the company he founded to provide an enterprise-wide platform - Clinical Operating System (cOS) to simplify and optimize care delivery processes in health systems. As CEO of Net.Orange, Vasu patented and developed an innovative healthcare framework (cOS™ - Clinical Operating System™) that results in superior performance for Healthcare Organizations and revolutionized the way healthcare IT systems are architected. The platform allowed for the rapid development of healthcare applications at dramatically lower costs compared to the industry norms. Prior to Net.Orange, Vasu was the first employee of i2 Technologies (currently JDA), which later grew to be a global company that revolutionized the supply chain market through innovative approaches based on the principles of Six-Sigma, operations research, and process optimization. Holding several patents in “Master Data Management” (MDM), “Enterprise Operating Systems”; and Workflow Management (as well as extensive process experience in the Life Sciences, Healthcare, Automotive, High-Tech, Consumer Packaged Goods and Retail industries), Vasu has extraordinary proven experience in large-scale enterprise transformation.
L7|ESP gives diagnostic companies total visibility over all their operations while digitizing, integrating, and automating scientific, analytical, and operational workflows. L7|ESP will increase sample throughput and quality assurance in results and provide reliable documentation for regulatory review (CAP/CLIA/GLP/cGMP). L7|ESP automates the entire sample to report process including sample and order management, barcode scanning, bio-repository management, lab data collection and analysis, data visualization, integration to all instruments, automated clinical report generation, e-signatures, and electronic delivery of reports to providers. The L7|ESP platform provides out-of-the-box apps, including ELN, LIMS, inventory, assets, location, analysis, data, projects, dashboards, reports, e-signatures, etc.
